I’ve had a fun afternoon loading the just released Legend in the Mist modules for Foundry VTT to see how it looks and feels. Son of Oak’s rustic fantasy, developed using their tag based Mist Engine, is beautifully realised, just as with their other titles. As per the recent podcast episode, I’m trying to hold off too much game development for Legend in the Mist until 2027, there’s a lot going on, but the arrival of the modules and imminent arrival of the physical books and accessories, may catapult the bucolic charms to an earlier play time.

I’m particularly taken with the ‘scene app’, which displays all the active characters and challenges in the scene (see top left of the screenshot above). This gives you a summary of all the tags in play, and enables you to drag and drop status changes to characters as you go. I think it will really help keep some control on a scene, and track where everything is up to on one window pane. Its presence ups my confidence to run the game online.
The Hearts of Ravensdale campaign is also fully available in the Ravensdale module, and looks to be ready to go. The character pack provides 20 lovely pre-gens, three of which are displayed above. As much as I like character creation, and helpful theme kits are available to be dragged in as you build, the pre-gens are varied and fantastic. You could easily start play with your group straight after your Session Zero with minimal preparation, other than reading the material.
Well, that’s a nice thing, and a possible fun time sink.
